Relay For Life Kickoff Benefits Cancer For Coachella Valley

Relay For Life

Everyone loves a Hawaiian luau and I can’t think of a better reason to attend one than the upcoming Saturday, May 6, 2017 American Cancer Society Relay for Life Kickoff event. That is the time for everyone to head down to the Civic Center Park, Administrative Conference Room in Palm Desert around noon for a fun day enjoying all things Hawaiian and raising much-needed funds for a worthy cause.

Relay for life is a signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Dedicated staff and volunteers in more than 5,200 communities spread across 27 countries get everything organized and up and running. These volunteers offer their time and energy because they believe in standing against cancer whenever the opportunity presents itself. Bringing communities together to remember loved ones they have lost as well as honoring survivors of all kinds of cancer is what it’s all about.

Relay is a team fundraising event in which members of each team take turns walking around the track or a designated path. Each event is about 6 to 24 hours in length and each team must have a member on the track at all times to symbolize the fact that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients are not able to stop because they’re tired, even for one night, and neither do these dedicated volunteers and relay members who love them. Each team sets up a themed campsite at the various events and facilitates fundraising efforts by collecting donations through the sales of food, games and activities, collecting money that goes toward their overall fundraising goal.

The Palm Desert event has the theme of Hawaiian luau at the May 6 event, which should prove to be plenty of fun and hopefully will raise a substantial amount of money to help prevent cancer. If you have never attended a Relay for Life, now is your chance to have a wonderful time and pitch in for one of the best reasons on the planet. Go out and make it a wonderful week and we do hope to see you at the very next Relay for Life!
