Although the Indian Wells Theater always has a great lineup and amazing talents, November 16, 2013 will still be a very special Saturday night. Two legendary performers will be spotlighted as Marty Edwards and Wendy T take center stage to recreate the incomparable country stars Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. With their unique voices and outsized gifts these two show business veterans have been delighting audiences for almost half a century.
Marty and Wendy magically bring them to life before our very eyes with dead on impersonations that make you forget you are not watching the genuine article. This duo has toured everywhere and amassed a fan base of their very own. Not only do they have the voices perfected, they have the mannerisms, dialogue and playful banter down pat as well. They are a treat to watch and if you have never had the pleasure of seeing a live performance up close and personal, you must make it a point to attend this month’s concert.
The Coachella Valley has no shortage of country western fans as the annual Stagecoach sell out can testify, so when a Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton Tribute of this caliber comes to town you can plan on an SRO (Standing Room Only) crowd! Most of us will remember the #1 Duet “Islands in the Stream” but Kenny and Dolly have had plenty of hits on their own as individual performers.
They recently released a new duet called, “You Can’t Make Old Friends” about which Rogers recently said, “I can’t think of a more perfect song for the two of us to sing together.” I have to agree with that one! In the past 40 years Rogers has released more than 65 records, a pretty amazing track record for any performer. Of course Parton is no slacker either with mega hits like “I will Always Love You” and “9 to 5” to her credit along with a mind boggling 3000 composed songs.
As an actress she has also made her mark with films such as “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias” along with many others. Suffice to say that they do not get bigger or better than Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I know many of us are looking forward to seeing the amazing tribute show this month at the venue of perfection, the Indian Wells Theater in Palm Desert. There is not a bad seat in the house thanks to planning that makes the sight lines and acoustics the best in the business.
November has plenty going on and I know you are busy but make time for a delightful evening with Kenny and Dolly, November 16. Hope to see you there!
