November 22 will mark the gala kickoff event of the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert’s 75th Anniversary. Christened “Meet the Galen” the event promises to be a well-attended sell out featuring an exhibition of the amazing private art collection of Philanthropist Helene Galen, a local legend and former Art Patron of the Year for 2012. You have often heard me say that this valley has no equal when it comes to generosity and Helene Galen and her late husband, Louis are prime examples of that sentiment.
The Galens are among the most giving of the many incredible philanthropists who live in our valley, having gifted such deserving venues as the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, USC, Eisenhower Medical Center, the McCallum Theater, the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles and many more. The Galen and the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert will host the Meet the Galen membership drive party, on Friday, November 22, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. to with a gala reception that will fete Helene Galen along with a crowd of the valley’s A-Listers.
The Art Angels of the Museum whose underwrote the event are Helen Galen, Donna MacMillan, Harold B. Matzner and Faye Sarkowsky, all of whom are long time benefactors of the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert. This stellar event will showcase the famous private art collection of Helen Galen herself as Galen at the Galen officially gets the Palm Springs Social Season underway.
For the past 25 years Helen Galen has worked her special brand of magic on either a committee or the board of the Palm Springs Art Museum. Her donation of $1 million to the Palm Desert location was a key factor in the expansion of the facility which added The Galen wing in her honor. As the snowbirds flock back home to the Coachella Valley expect to see plenty more events that will honor the world of art. One of the favorite pursuits of valley residents is the enjoyment and acquisition of fine art and there is no place better suited to it than the Coachella Valley.
With Art Under the Umbrellas now in La Quinta ready for the Season and the 75th Anniversary of Palm Springs afoot, we are in for a year of pure beauty and fun. Don’t miss Galen at the Galen and join the celebrations as we observe 75 years of artistic culture and limitless talent. Hope to see you there!
