I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy Cyndi Lauper and remember her song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” with a smile. If you have driven down Palm Canyon lately I am sure you have seen the banners with her name across them imploring you to come on May 11 and enjoy her concert at the classic and beloved O’Donnell Golf Club in the heart of Palm Springs. Although she is on a concert tour this one is special for a very important reason. It will benefit the AIDS Assistance Program here in the valley.
Started in 1991, this is a program that has consistently been there for low income victims and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Providing food vouchers and assistance to those in need there are thousands who have been touched and helped by this amazing organization. They were on the scene before the mainstream media had convinced the world to take up the torch and support the cause. Since those days we have seen such icons as Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John offer their famous names to rid the world of this terrible disease.
Called the “Jewel of the Palm Springs Fundraising Season” by the Desert Sun, this is an event that brings in the brightest and best for a gala evening of entertainment, gourmet cuisine and dancing under the stars. It is always a night of talent and glamour invoking memories of old Hollywood galas of bygone eras. Visitors coming in from out of town are enchanted by our desert lifestyles so I am always busy helping them find the perfect vacation home tucked away in some lovely and peaceful cove.
Right now, we really do have an extraordinary inventory of unique luxury homes in every location imaginable. La Quinta just grows more popular every year thanks to the wealth of amenities surrounding us out there. Of course, Palm Springs is seeing a rebirth as never before so it is just as in demand as ever. With interest rates at historical lows folks can afford a lot more for their money which thrills everyone.
It is great to find out you can afford twice the house you thought you could so little wonder people are spreading the word. With a new generation of baby boomers focused on healthy aging it just makes sense to be in the desert. Our medical care and holistic health resources are iconic and unequalled. You just won’t find a better place to call home but I guess I don’t need to tell you that if you are reading this! You already know our secrets! Hope you join me May 14 for an evening of fun with Cyndi Lauper for AIDS. Have a great week!
