It’s that time of year again. We are all trying to work off the holiday calories, stick to our New Year’s resolutions and enjoy the beautiful weather. February 8, 2014 the 16th Annual Tour de Palm Springs will offer an opportunity to do all of the above and raise money for charity besides. What could be better?
With plenty of biking and walking routes to accommodate every level of physical capability and every age, the Tour de Palm Springs is truly a family affair. Winding through the streets of Palm Springs the tour will encompass a safe and scenic series of routes for all the lucky participants. Presented by CVSPIN (acronym for Coachella Valley Serving People in Need), the bike race was initiated in 1999 and has raised more than $1 million for local charities over the years.
To name just a few of the local charities that have been helped by this event: The Braille Institute, Animal Samaritans, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Buddy Rogers Youth Symphony, Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, Coachella Valley Autism Society of America, College of the Desert Foundation, Desert Music Academy, Desert Legal Aid, Father’s Heart Ranch, Guide Dogs of the Desert, Helping the Homeless Now, Joshua Tree National Park Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation Of the Inland Empire, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Palm Desert High School Foundation, Palm Desert High School Band Boosters, Palm Springs High School Cheerleaders, Rotary Club of La Quinta, and dozens more.
I must admit I am always very proud of the generosity of our very affluent Valley. Our friends and neighbors always seem to find a way to help others and yet produce an event that is fun and exciting. I think that is a real accomplishment and just one more reason why this is one of the best places in the world to live and raise families. It would be hard to find a local event that does not somehow benefit a charitable cause any time of the year.
The Tour de Palm Springs has been designed to welcome everyone. Specially designed and produced Gear Wear is available online to help promote the event and offer a lasting remembrance for participants. Do plan to come out and join the fun on Saturday, February 8, 2014 as we join together as a community to benefit those less fortunate.
