by Brad Schmett The heat of summer is behind us and our crisp desert nights are finally here. With the cooler weather comes the golden opportunity to take our families to the living desert and zoo in beautiful Palm desert, and to sip hot chocolate around the campfires. Always one of our signature desert events, this is the 22nd consecutive year we have enjoyed this wonderful holiday tradition. December nights are clear in the desert and the blazing bonfires are always great fun to gather around with a steaming cup of Irish coffee or Apple Cider for the grown-ups and some whipped cream topped cocoa for the kids. by Brad Schmett Most of us would agree that we live in a world of high technology, frequent change and unpredictability. So it is of great comfort to know that some things never change. Among my favorite unchanging things is the wonderful Tchaikovsky ballet, The Nutcracker, a holiday tradition since its premiere in 1892. This December 17, the fabulous Moscow Classical Ballet will perform this magical and mystical story that has every essential component of the holiday season front and center. A Princess, a Prince, frosty snow and glowing fireplaces, sugarplum fairies and mice, Christmas Eve and of course the Nutcracker himself all join together to create a fantasy that has delighted generations of …

by Brad Schmett Although both of our local Symphony Orchestras, the Coachella Valley Symphony and the Desert Symphony always offer plenty of great entertainment, the 2014-2015 season is particularly outstanding. This season Musical Director Gary Berkson will thrill audiences with several outstanding concerts. In February, “Supreme Reflections” will rock the house with a tribute to Diana Ross and the Supremes, of Motown fame. You may know that Diva Ross was recently appearing locally and is still touring occasionally. March will feature “Dancing and Romancing” with Joan Hess and Kirby Ward performing …

by Brad Schmett December 12, 2014 will mark what would have been Frank Sinatra’s 99th birthday. Palm Springs was not only one of Sinatra’s favorite places, it was also his home for many decades. Her work with the special children of the Coachella Valley is legendary. This amazing center has helped thousands of children over the years overcome abuse and neglect, reunited families and even counseled with adults who suffered abuse as children. Events are planned all across the nation to celebrate the life and times of Frank …
