by Brad Schmett On Friday November 14, 2014 the Palm Springs Convention Center is the place to be. Starting with cocktails at 6 PM the highly anticipated 7:30 PM dancing competition will benefit the Desert AIDS Project and 100 Women. Rehearsals have been underway for weeks as eight of our local talented amateur dancers pair up with eight professional dancers and give it their all for charity. Modeled after the popular hit television show Dancing With the Stars, this idea was a stroke of genius. After all, who doesn’t like to see beautiful couples out on the dance floor showing off their very best moves? From our own community expect to see the beautiful …

by Brad Schmett The 18th Annual Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade will once again prove that Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley are among the most patriotic towns in the nation. Set for November 11, 2014 at 3:30 PM, the parade will begin as usual at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and proceed northbound to Alejo Road and Palm Canyon Drive. For the past 17 years the parade and surrounding events has gotten bigger and better as the Valley grows and more people turn out to honor these courageous men and women. The Palm Springs Air Museum and the close proximity of Palm Springs to the 29 Palms Marine Base certainly add to …

by Brad Schmett As our autumn social season gets underway it is wonderful to see the celebrations all across the Valley. Several of those celebrations will be held in beautiful Old Town La Quinta to the delight of all of us who make our home here. One of the most charming places in the Coachella Valley, Old Town has the rustic ambience that people expect in small-town America. On Saturday, November 8, from 10 AM to 4 PM the Eighth Annual Fall Family Festival will take over the downtown area with more than 50 exhibitors and vendors and thousands of family attendees. With the focus squarely on family life, About Families Incorporated, For Moms …

by Brad Schmett If for a moment you thought the Palm Springs Historical Society was nothing more than a stodgy old Museum let me set you straight. One of the most innovative and exciting organizations in the entire Coachella Valley, the Historical Society offers a huge array of tours and exhibits throughout the year. As the new season begins I am amazed as usual by the latest ideas the Palm Springs Historical Society has come up with. Modernism Week always gets the party started in October and was a sellout this year just as it is every year. We are so fortunate to have some of the world’s most unique architecture in our midst. …

by Brad Schmett The autumn season always brings plenty of great things to hearth and home. It never seems quite like fall though, until Halloween arrives and with it the cooler temperatures and the onset of the fabulous Palm Springs social season. This year the calendar is jam-packed with great activities and plenty of fun for families and singles alike. Although in years gone by Halloween was more of a children’s trick-or-treat holiday, all that has changed and today young people and adults of all ages love to get dressed up and attend their favorite celebrations. Here in the Coachella Valley we have no shortage of festivals and gala events celebrating Halloween, fall, and …

by Brad Schmett If you are associated in any way with California Native American tribes or the California State University system you probably attended the 29th Annual California Indian Conference from October 9-11 on the San Bernardino campus of the California State University. The Native American elite of academia from across the country as well as distinguished elders (such as Ernest Siva: Morongo) from our local tribes were all in attendance. This year’s theme was “Silenced Voices: California Natives’ Survivance and Revitalization.” No less than 55 concurrent academic sessions were held over a three day period capped off by a six hour cultural gala that featured much of our own local Cahuilla tribal talent, …

by Brad Schmett This Saturday, October 25 at 7 AM the 29th Annual Tram Road Challenge 6K uphill run and walk will kick-off to the delight of the Coachella Valley. Even better, it will celebrate Make a Difference Day, a National Day of Doing Good held for the last 22 years by USA Weekend Magazine and will benefit United Way of the Desert. Quite likely the only thing most of us like better than a good outdoor walk is a walk that will give back to the less fortunate. For more than a quarter-century runners and walkers from all around the globe have been taking on the challenge and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway …

by Brad Schmett You may already know that selling a home, especially a luxury home is a lot more involved than simply signing the listing agreement. Getting the best price for any home takes a lot of strategic planning and hard work before the “For Sale” sign ever goes up. In fact creating a home that is perfect for showing is almost an art form. My Team and I are experts at preparing and showing off a home to maximum potential. One of the things we always advise our sellers is to pack away all their personal items and effectively ‘de-personalize’ their home. This is a particularly smart strategy because it allows potential buyers …
