by Brad Schmett With Valley home prices increasing every year and values climbing, Coachella Valley homeowners are paying more attention than ever to their home insurance policies. Although lenders do require certain types of insurance, they don’t always insist on enough or a wide enough range of policy coverages. Most lenders are concerned with fire insurance obviously, and of course such things as floods and earthquakes but beyond that it is increasingly up to the homeowner themselves to make smart choices. Homeowner insurance policies should be reviewed annually and checked carefully to make sure they are keeping pace with costs of replacement, the real estate market and the American economy. The financial climate of …

by Brad Schmett It is safe to say that no other band in California history has defined “Surfboard Rock ‘n Roll” as perfectly as the Beach Boys. This Labor Day weekend, August 30, 2014, at 8 PM, the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino will welcome founding members Brian Wilson and Al Jardine to the stage as we all take a walk down memory lane, and along the beaches of Southern California during the turbulent 60’s. What a great era it, was and what= wonderful memories this concert will bring back for so many people. I can’t imagine how excited Fantasy Springs is to be welcoming both of these veteran rockers after so many years back …

by Brad Schmett For most people, buying a home is the largest purchase they will ever make. So it just makes sense to know exactly what you are buying. You wouldn’t buy a car without having your mechanic have a look at it first and offer a stamp of approval. With a home it is even more critical to have an inspection, since so many things can and often do go wrong. In particular, with so many distressed homes on the market thanks to the recent recession, it pays to check things out thoroughly ahead of time. There is nothing complicated or difficult about obtaining a home inspection. Most of the time it is …

by Brad Schmett One of the best things that has ever happened to the Coachella Valley was the generous donation to the public by Walter and Leonore Annenberg of their fabulous estate in Rancho Mirage. Each year the Annenberg retreat at Sunnylands plans an entire year of gala events running from September through June including fun filled tours, exhibitions, nature walks, and special events. I really don’t think there could be a more perfect setting for all of the above anywhere in the entire country. Sunnylands has a rich and historical legacy going back many decades. Often dubbed the “Camp David of the West” because of the many presidents it has hosted on those …

by Brad Schmett I can’t really think of a television show that has been more popular than American Idol. The reasons of course are easy to understand. We all love an underdog and there is nothing more fun than to see an unknown talent skyrocket to dizzying heights of stardom. After all, it could be you, one of our kids or our next-door neighbor. That of course, is half the fun. American Idol is about to launch its 14th season with Ryan Seacrest still at the helm. The judges have changed over the years but the basic formula for success has remained the same. This summer the Coachella Valley is excited to welcome American …

by Brad Schmett On August 13, 2014 at 1:30PM, distinguished Palm Desert resident Isham A. “Rusty” Burns will speak to visitors at the Palm Springs Air Museum. The New Orleans born Burns now makes his home here in the Coachella Valley, but he is most famous for being one of the 992 Tuskegee Airmen. Born in 1925, Burns trained as a pilot at the Tuskegee Airfield where he also developed a love for aviation. At the age of only 16 he worked at the Burbank airport honing his love for aircraft in the theory of flight, navigation and meteorology.
