If you have ever been anywhere near the Westfield shopping mall on the first Saturday of the month in Palm Desert, you have probably seen dozens of those beautiful classic cars and hot rods cruising along Highway 111. The Palm Springs Cruisin’ Association is one of our most popular nonprofit organizations and sponsors this first Saturday of the month event annually. Last year’s amazingly popular Dr. George Charity Car Show raised thousands of dollars for cancer research and this wonderful organization is constantly working to better our community.
PSCA is a member of the Inland Empire Car Club Council which boasts a membership of more than 300 people. To be a member of the club all you have to be is a car enthusiast who likes to have a good time. The PSCA is an all-volunteer organization whose main mission is the promotion of camaraderie among car lovers as well as raising much needed funds for charitable causes. It started out as a small gathering at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor parking lot in Palm Springs more than a quarter-century ago.
Now it has grown to incorporate an average of 150 cars a month including classics, hot rods, street rods, antiques, motorcycles, many of them restored and original collectibles. These stunning vehicles are put on view to the general public free of charge. It is fascinating to see the detailed work and loving care that goes into each one of these beautiful automobiles and motorcycles. There must be some truth to the old saying “They don’t make them like they used to” because one look at these classics will convince you.
There are other events during the month including the Silver Scorpions Breakfast at 6 AM that members can enjoy as they stay in touch with like-minded individuals who enjoy classic cars as much as they do. For the kids there are coloring and hula hoop contests and plenty of other things to do for the entire family. Although there are prizes for competition, everyone is truly a winner just for showing off their fabulous collectibles.
Don’t miss the first Saturday of the month Cruise-In and go out make it a great week. Hope to see you there!
