HITS Desert Horse Park Welcomes Equestrian Competitors

HITS Desert Horse Park

Anyone who loves all things equestrian knows that during the winter months the place to be is HITS Desert Horse Park in Thermal, just next-door to beautiful La Quinta. The park is located on 239 spacious acres with just under 1200 stalls on site and every convenience the discerning equestrian could want. Not to be understated, the AIG $1 million purse which is awarded on March 19 this year is arguably another big attraction. Starting on January 17 and running through March 19, 2017 the park will welcome thousands of the most beautiful horses in the world as competitors convene for the ultimate prize money.

The HITS Desert Circuit is where the finest equestrian stars from the short stirrup ring to the Grand Prix stadium gather together for an exciting eight weeks in the Coachella Valley. After putting down roots in Indio during the mid-90s, the first horse was welcomed at the HITS Desert Horse Park in 2007. In the ensuing years the HITS Desert Circuit has garnered a well-earned reputation as the place to be for West Coast show-goers during the winter months.

You probably already know that the show has hosted World Cup champions, Olympians, and international show jumping stars over the years. The AIG $1 million Grand Prix is the first jewel in the HITS Triple Crown, offering the richest prize in American show jumping. HITS Coachella Desert Circuit features a full eight weeks of USEF Premier rated hunters and jumpers with total prizes of nearly $3 million. During weeks IV and VIII HITS will feature two $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derbies.

Of course horseback riding is nothing new here in the Wild West. The Coachella Valley is surrounded by some of the most rugged and pristine riding trails in Southern California. We also boast plenty of beautiful and luxurious equestrian Estates as well as convenient boarding options. With near perfect weather for the majority of the year, the California Desert is a popular place to call home for anyone who loves the outdoor lifestyle. Outdoor pursuits and sportsmanship are hallmarks of Coachella Valley living, and we are known almost as much for our polo and horse shows as we are for our world-class music concerts and golf.

I hope you can make time to take in one of the exciting weeks of competition beginning late this month and running through the middle of March. Few things are more breathtaking than these majestic thoroughbreds up close and personal. Go out and make it a great week and enjoy the season.
