6th Annual Drive Against Hunger Benefits Galilee Center In Indio

6th Annual Drive Against Hunger

For those of us that love golf and charity March 24, 2014 presents that special opportunity to participate in both. The Sixth Annual Drive Against Hunger Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, March 24 at 8:30 AM at the beautiful Eagle Falls Golf Course in Indio. At a cost of only $150 per person it is a donation that is tax-deductible and includes a full range of benefits including green fees, range balls, tee package, continental breakfast, refreshments during the tournament, and after tournament festivities including the grand buffet, a raffle, awards and prizes and a silent auction with a smorgasbord of beautiful gifts.

Of course, it is all to benefit charity and this year the proceeds go to the wonderful Galilee Center in Mecca. This nonprofit organization provides hope and help for more than 18,000 families annually from here in the Coachella Valley. Assistance includes food, utility bills, clothing, financial aid, and facilities. The list of sponsors for this nonprofit organization is a long and distinguished one with some of the biggest names in the Coachella Valley pitching in to help the less fortunate.

Sponsored by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians and Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and helped by Volunteers from Sun City Shadow Hills this amazing event gets everyone out under the warm desert sun to enjoy a day together while raising much-needed financial help for some of our most at risk families. In the summer of 2010 the Galilee Center began their work by providing canned food baskets to underprivileged families at their location at the intersection of Harrison Street and Avenue 66 in Thermal. Through the generosity of a local family that allowed their backyard to be used as a facility base the Galilee Center began to grow and prosper.

On their first day 12 dedicated volunteers assisted with packing and distributing food baskets to the 98 families that showed up on that first evening. After only two months the families increased to 120 as people began to learn about the distribution through word-of-mouth. Items such as fresh produce, clothing, shoes, and household items help to make life easier for families on the east end of the Coachella Valley who were struggling.

The generosity in this Valley has always been a great source of pride for my team and me. It is wonderful to know that we live in an area that is not only beautiful and world-famous but also very loving and giving. The Galilee Center accepts donations all year long so don’t miss a chance to help out whenever you can. Go out and make it a great week and enjoy the sunshine!
